Sara holds dual Masters degrees in Counseling and Psychology and Public Administration, with a concentration in Healthcare Management. She is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and a Certified Addiction Professional. Having been raised in San Juan, Puerto Rico and being a resident of Florida for almost two decades, she is both bilingual in English and Spanish and bicultural. Sara is a Professional member of the American Counseling Association and a Qualified Supervisor for Mental Health Counseling in the State of Florida. Since 2008 Sara has been providing direct care services to adults suffering from mental health conditions and co-occuring substance abuse disorders. Currently, Sara is a Director at a premier residential treatment center for adults in Deerfield Beach, FL.
In her private practice, Sara provides individual counseling services to adults, qualified supervision for register mental health counseling interns and also conducts court ordered comprehensive mental health and substance abuse assessments. Her areas of special interest lie in working with individuals who are seeking to overcome ineffective or destructive thought patterns, improve symptoms management and overcome substance abuse. Some of Sara’s preferred therapeutic models are Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution Focused Brief Therapy, Motivation Interviewing and Relapse Prevention. In working with addiction, she has a flexible perspective, being receptive to both abstinence based and medication assisted models.
